Effects of ten thousand-step walk on health of the occupational population |

Abstract Objective To analyze the effects of ten thousand-step walk on the health of occupational population.Methods The in-service employees of the government institutions in Jiangbei District of Ningbo were selected to participate in the ten thousand-step walk competition in 2017,and the online survey were used to collect basic information such as gender,age,marital status,education level and occupation. On-site physical examination was conducted to collect the data of height,body weight,waist circumference,hip circumference,systolic blood pressure,diastolic blood pressure and so on. The changes of data related to the physical indicators of participants before and after walking were analyzed.Results A total of 297 in-service employees were included,including 116 males,accounting for 39.06%,and 181 females,accounting for 60.94%. After walking,the average weight of employees was(61.02±10.99)kg,waist circumference was(78.54±8.95)cm,hip circumference was(92.12±6.15)cm,body fat percentage was(25.63±4.84)%,visceral index was 8.78±1.86,systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were(114.81±12.78)and(72.20±9.47)mm Hg,respectively,and the values of these indicators were all lower than before(P<0.05). After walking,the body weight,waist circumference,hip circumference,visceral index,body fat percentage,systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure of employees in all age groups decreased compared with those before walking(P<0.05),and the visceral index,systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure decreased more significantly(P<0.05). There was no significant change in body weight,waist circumference,hip circumference and body fat percentage index with time among different age groups(P>0.05). After walking,the body weight,waist circumference,hip circumference,body fat percentage,visceral index,systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure of male and female employees decreased and the decline of waist circumference and systolic blood pressure in males were more than those in females(P<0.05). There was no significant changes of body weight,hip circumference and body fat percentage with time between males and females (P>0.05).Conclusion Ten thousand-step walk can reduce the body weight,waist circumference,hip circumference,body fat rate,visceral index,systolic pressure and diastolic pressure,especially males’ waist circumference and systolic pressure.
