Correlation between serum vitamin D level and dyslipidaemias in medical staff |

Abstract Objective To explore the relationship between low serum vitamin D levels and dyslipidaemias in medical staff. Methods A total of 754 medical staff that get physical examination in our hospital were enrolled in this study. Venous blood samples were obtained,then serum 25(OH)D and lipids level were measured. Then the blood biochemical indexes of medical staff with different levels of vitamin D were compared and the correlation between 25(OH)D and blood lipid related biochemical indexes were analyzed. Results The average serum 25(OH)D in the 754 subjects was(15.94±7.41)ng/mL. Patients in severe vitamin D deficient group were 156(20.69%),and in vitamin D deficient group were 418(57.89%),as well as in vitamin D inadequate group were 147(19.50%)and in vitamin D adequate group were 33(4.38%). After adjustment of age and gender,a significantly negative correlation was found between 25(OH)D and BMI(r=-0.090,P=0.013),TC(r=-0.309,P<0.001),TG(r=-0.079,P=0.030)and LDL-C(r=-0.143,P<0.001). Further multivariate linear regression analysis showed that TC was negatively correlated with vitamin D(β'=-0.298,P<0.001). Conclusion Vitamin D deficiency is very common among medical staff and we should pay attention to this condition. Vitamin D deficiency is related to the increasing of serum TC.
