Abstract Objective To investigate the effects of Dendrobium candidum leaves on immune function of female rats after two generation reproduction.Methods Different doses of Dendrobium candidum leaves (2.0 g/kg-6.4 g/kg B.W) were fed to the rats for two generation reproduction. The thymus/body ratio,the spleen/body ratio,the T lymphocyte proliferation of rat spleen induced by conA, delayed type hypersensitivity, serum hemolysin antibody, the antibody-producing cells, the phagocytotic ability of peritoneal macrophages for chicken erythrocytes, the carbon clearance indexes and natural killer(NK)activity were detected.Results Compared with the control group, Dendrobium candidum leaves could increase the ability of T lymphocyte proliferation of mouse spleen induced by conA. NK cell function, the delayed type hypersensitivity in the rats of high dose were higher than the control group(P<0.05).There were no significant differences among groups on the number of hemocytolysis plaque,macrophage activity, the level of hemolytic antibody in serum, carbon clearance, the thymus/body ratio, the spleen/body ratio, and the weight gain of the rats (P>0.05).Conclusion Under this experimental condition, Dendrobium candidum leaves could enhance the T lymphocyte proliferation, the delayed type hypersensitivity and NK cell function of female rats after two generation reproduction.
