Abstract:Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics and hospitalization expenses of injured children in Ningbo,and to provide scientific evidence for promoting the intervention strategies of child injury. Methods The Ningbo Hospitalized Injury Monitoring Report Card was used to collect the injury cases of children under 15 years old who were discharged from the Ningbo Women & Children's Hospital from 2013 to 2017. The epidemiological characteristics and hospitalization expenses of these cases were analyzed.Results Among the 11 064 hospitalized child injury cases included in the study,6 699 cases(60.55%)were children aged 1 to 4 years;6 073 cases(54.89%)were nonlocal children. Home was the main place for child injury with 8 553 cases(77.43%). The top three causes of child injury were falling down/falls(37.62%),burns(30.16%)and traffic injuries(16.90%),of which the total hospitalization expenses were accounted for 39.17%,25.34% and 24.36% of that in all injury causes. The hospitalized child injury cases due to drowning had the highest mortality rate of 38.46% and the highest daily hospitalization cost per person-time with a median of 3 400 yuan.Conclusion Children aged 1 to 4 years and from nonlocal places were high-risk population for hospitalization due to injury in Ningbo. Falling down/falls,burns and traffic injuries were the top three causes of child injury.
