Abstract:Objective To analyze the association between three dietary patterns and metabolic syndrome(MS)in a middle-aged population and to provide basis for MS prevention. Methods Subjects aged 45-59 years at the physical examination center of a top three hospital in Hangzhou from July 2016 to October 2017 were invited for dietary survey, physical examination and biochemical detection. Factor analysis was used to construct the dietary pattern. The logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between dietary patterns and the risk of MS.Results A total of 2 102 subjects were investigated,1 918 valid questionnaires were returned, and the effective rate reached 91.25%. There were 453 patients with MS,and the prevalence was 23.62%. Three dietary patterns were identified:animal pattern with high intake of livestock/poultry meat, processed meat products, eggs, etc;traditional Chinese pattern with high intake of cereal grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, beans and soy products, tea, etc;seafood pattern with high intake of seaweed/kelp,salted fish/meat,fish,shrimp,etc. After adjusting for gender, age, smoking and physical activity, logistic regression analysis indicated that the animal pattern might increase the risk of MS(OR=1.224,95%CI:1.072-1.944),the traditional Chinese pattern might reduce the risk of MS(OR=0.785,95%CI:0.477-0.998),but there was no association between the seafood pattern and the risk of MS(P>0.05).Conclusion The dietary patterns are closely related to MS in a middle-aged population. Adhering to traditional Chinese dietary pattern and reducing the intake of meat can reduce the risk of MS.
