Abstract:Objective To evaluate the health education effects on prevention of fall among survivors from stroke, and to provide evidence for prevention of fall. Methods We enrolled 240 convalescent stroke patients in Zhoushan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from January 2017 to June 2018 and assigned them to a intervention group and a control group according to random number table. The intervention group was given health education on prevention of falls and the control group was given routine nursing education. We compared the knowledge, awareness and preventive measures of fall between the two groups after three weeks' intervention. Results Before the intervention, there were no significant differences in gender, age, educational level and scores of risk factors for fall at admission between the two groups (P>0.05). After the intervention, the knowledge of fall of the two groups were both improved, while the increase in scores in the intervention group was greater than that in the control group (P<0.05). The rate of actively learning the knowledge of falls, actively removing the hazards, actively participating the intervention, strictly practicing“Ten Tips for Prevention of fall”,correctly using the auxiliary equipment, maintaining emotional stability and cooperating with correct gait training in the two groups were all increased, with the intervention group more significant(P<0.05). At the time of discharge, the incidence of fall in the intervention group was 6.67%,which was lower than that in the control group(20.00%,P<0.05).Conclusion Health education on prevention of fall can improve the knowledge, awareness and practice of fall prevention among convalescent stroke patients.
