Abstract:Objective To investigate the current status and influencing factors of unintentional injuries among middle school students, so as to provide evidence for formulating comprehensive prevention strategies for such injuries. Method as From September to December 2023, middle school students from four prefectures and cities in Yunnan Province were selected as research subjects by multi-stage stratified random cluster sampling. Data including demographic characteristics, depressive symptoms, lifestyle behaviors, family environment and the occurrence of unintentional injuries in the past one year were collected through questionnaire surveys. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors for unintentional injuries among middle school students. Results A total of 4 172 middle school students were enrolled, including 1 962 boys (47.03%) and 2 210 girls (52.97%); 2 294 junior high school students (54.99%) and 1 878 senior high school students (45.01%). A total of 406 students suffered from unintentional injuries in the past year, with an incidence of 9.74%. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that boy (OR=1.329, 95%CI: 1.064-1.663), depressive symptoms (OR=1.505, 95%CI: 1.194-1.892), smoking (OR=1.436, 95%CI: 1.110-1.853), drinking alcohol (OR=2.066, 95%CI: 1.622-2.630), moderate and high-intensity physical exercise for 4-7 days per week (OR=1.490, 95%CI: 1.086-2.064) and family conflicts (OR=1.363, 95%CI: 1.064-1.735) were associated with higher risks of unintentional injuries among middle school students. Conclusion Approximately 10% of middle school students in Yunnan Province experienced unintentional injuries, which were correlated with gender, depressive symptoms, lifestyle behaviors and family conflicts.
