Abstract:Objective To analyze the trends in incidence and mortality of lung cancer in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province from 2013 to 2022, so as to provide the evidence for improving lung cancer prevention and control strategies. Methods The incidence and mortality of lung cancer in Yixing City from 2013 to 2022 were collected from Wuxi National Health Information Platform. Calculate the crude incidence and mortality. The Chinese population-standardized incidence and mortality were calculated based on the data from the Fifth National Population Census of China in 2000, while the world population-standardized incidence and mortality were calculated using Segi's world standard population data. The average annual percent change (AAPC) was used to analyze the trends of lung cancer incidence and mortality from 2013 to 2022. Results The crude incidence, Chinese population-standardized incidence, and world population-standardized incidence of lung cancer in Yixing City from 2013 to 2022 were 70.18/105, 29.71/105 and 29.09/105 , respectively, all showing upward trends (AAPC=6.579%, 4.616%, and 4.451%, all P<0.05). The crude mortality was 55.68/105, showing an upward trend (AAPC=1.919%, P<0.05). The Chinese population-standardized mortality and world population-standardized mortality were 21.43/105 and 21.04/105, respectively, both with downward trends (AAPC=-2.198%, -2.106%, both P<0.05). The crude incidence (mortality), Chinese population-standardized incidence (mortality), world population-standardized incidence (mortality) of lung cancer in males were higher than those in females. The crude incidence and mortality of lung cancer initially increased and then decreased with age in the whole population, as well as in males and females. Crude incidence of lung cancer among females demonstrated significant increasing trends in the age groups of 40-<45, 50-<55, 55-<60, 60-<65, 65-<70, 70-<75, and 75-<80 years from 2013 to 2022 (AAPC=22.410%, 20.244%, 11.473%, 12.957%, 5.244%, 8.606%, and 6.644%, all P<0.05). In contrast, a significant decreasing trend in crude mortality was observed only in the 60-<65 age group (AAPC=-9.687%, P<0.05). Conclusions From 2013 to 2022, the crude incidence, age-standardized incidence and crude mortality of lung cancer all exhibited upward trends in Yixing City, whereas the age-standardized mortality showed a declining trend. These findings indicated that lung cancer prevention and control had achieved certain effects, yet the intervention on pathogenic risk factors remained insufficient. Males and middle-aged and elderly females were core target populations for intervention.
