Abstract:Objective To analyze the new diagnosis rates and epidemiological characteristics of HIV-infected persons and AIDS patients (HIV/AIDS) in Jiangshan City, Zhejiang Province from 2004 to 2023, so as to provide the basis for developing AIDS prevention and control measures. Methods Basic information, transmission routes, and contact history of HIV/AIDS cases reported in Jiangshan City from 2004 to 2023 were collected through the HIV/AIDS Comprehensive Control System of Chinese Disease Prevention and Control Information System. The new diagnosis rates were calculated. Descriptive analysis was performed on temporal, regional, and population distribution characteristics. Annual percent change (APC) and average annual percent change (AAPC) were used to analyze trends in new diagnosis rates of HIV/AIDS cases. Results A total of 439 HIV/AIDS cases were cumulatively reported in Jiangshan City from 2004 to 2023. As of the end of 2023, 287 cases were still alive, and the infection rate among the entire population was 57.35/105. From 2004 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of newly discovered HIV/AIDS cases was 9.39%, and the new diagnosis rate showed an overall upward trend (AAPC=14.329%, P<0.05). Specifically, it showed an upward trend from 2004 to 2017 (APC=43.208%, P<0.05) and a downward trend from 2017 to 2023 (APC=-29.817%, P<0.05). Cases were reported in all 19 townships (subdistricts). Shuangta Subdistrict, Hushan Subdistrict, Qinghu Subdistrict, Hecun Town, and Shangyu Town collectively reported 258 cases, accounting for 58.77% of the total. There were 344 males and 95 females, with a male-to-female ratio of 3.62∶1. Among the cases, 219 cases were aged 50 to <70 years, accounting for 49.89%. A total of 398 cases were transmitted through heterosexual contact, accounting for 90.66%, of which 271 cases had a history of commercial sexual contact, representing 68.09%. Conclusions From 2004 to 2023, the new diagnosis rate of HIV/AIDS in Jiangshan City initially increased and then decreased. As of 2023, AIDS was at a low prevalence level. There were relatively more cases among males and aged 50 to <70 years, with commercial heterosexual contact being the predominant transmission route. It is recommended to strengthen health education on sexual behavior and risk intervention among high-risk populations, and to enhance awareness of self-protection and active testing.
