Abstract:Objective To investigate the status and influencing factors of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) among student close contacts with pulmonary tuberculosis in universities of Pudong New Area, Shanghai Municipality, so as to provide a basis for optimizing pulmonary tuberculosis prevention and control in universities. Methods Universities in Pudong New Area that experienced pulmonary tuberculosis outbreaks from January 2023 to December 2024 were selected as the survey sites. Student who had close contacts with pulmonary tuberculosis patients underwent Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection testing and chest imaging examinations. Data on demographic information, lifestyle behaviors, pathogen test results of the contacted patients, and the degree of exposure to patients were collected through questionnaires, physical examinations, and pulmonary tuberculosis patient registration records. LTBI was defined as a positive Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection test result, normal chest imaging findings, and no history of tuberculosis. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors of LTBI among student close contacts with pulmonary tuberculosis. Results A total of 3 008 students who had close contact with pulmonary tuberculosis patients in universities were surveyed, including 1 783 males (59.28%) and 1 225 females (40.72%), with a mean age of (20.00±3.00) years. A total of 197 cases of LTBI were detected, with a detection rate of 6.55%. Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that students with insufficient sleep duration (OR=2.012, 95%CI: 1.315-3.077), exposed to patients with delayed medical consultation (OR=6.979, 95%CI: 4.902-9.938), exposed to pathogen-positive patients (OR=1.887, 95%CI: 1.339-2.658), and sharing the same dormitory (OR=5.839, 95%CI: 3.320-10.270) or being in the same class but different dormitories (OR=2.960, 95%CI: 2.032-4.311) had a higher risk of LTBI. Conclusions The detection rate of LTBI among student close contacts with pulmonary tuberculosis in universities of Pudong New Area is relatively low, and the risk is primarily associated with sleep duration, the medical consultation status of the contacted patients, pathogen test results of the contacted patients, and the degree of exposure to patients.
