Abstract:Objective To understand the prevalence of human hookworm infection in Fujian Province, and to provide evidence for the consolidation of hookworm disease prevention and further reduce the infection rate of hookworm. Methods In 2015,according to the requirements of the“National Survey on the Status of Human Key Parasitic Diseases”,the stratified cluster random sampling method was used to select the resident population of rural areas in Fujian Province, and the fecal specimens were collected to examine hookworm eggs by modified Kato-Katz smear method and test tube-filter paper culture method. Hookworm infection rate, infection degree, region, population distribution and species composition were descriptively analyzed. Results A total of 10 652 people were investigated and 358 cases of hookworm infection were detected. The infection rate was 3.36%,which was mainly caused by mild infection, accounting for 81.56%. Among the 15 counties(cities, districts)surveyed, the hookworms were not found in Zhouning County. The highest infection rate of hookworms was found in Ninghua County(15.73%);the average infection rate of hookworms in the hilly ecological regions of Zhejiang and Fujian was 4.00%,which was higher than the 2.68% of the hilly ecological regions in the southern part of Fujian and the central parts of Yunnan,Guizhou and Guangdong(P<0.05) . The hookworm infection rates of male and female were 3.06% and 3.65%,respectively,and the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05) . The infection rate of hookworm increased with age(P<0.05),and the average age of infected people was(58.30±14.10)years old. The infection rate of hookworm was relatively high in farmers(4.54%). The detection rate of American hookworms was 59.86%.Conclusion The infection rate of hookworms in Fujian Province had decreased, but it was still remained at a relatively high level compared with other provinces in China; the elderly who were farmers in low-economic areas were the main population of hookworm infection.
