Abstract:Objective To investigate the trend in incidence of thyroid cancer in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province from 2016 to 2024, so as to provide a basis for optimizing prevention and control strategies for thyroid cancer. Methods Data on incidence of thyroid cancer in Jinhua City from 2016 to 2024 were collected through the Zhejiang Provincial Chronic Disease Surveillance Information Management System. The crude incidence of thyroid cancer was calculated and standardized using the data from the Sixth National Population Census in 2010. The average annual percent change (AAPC) was used to analyze the temporal trend in incidence of thyroid cancer from 2016 to 2024, and a linear regression model was employed to calculate average age of onset and analyze its trend over the same period. Results From 2016 to 2024, the crude incidence and age-standardized incidence of thyroid cancer in Jinhua City were 59.76/105 and 56.18/105, respectively, showing increasing trends (AAPC=11.447%, 12.457%, both P<0.05). The crude incidence and age-standardized incidence for males were 29.55/105 and 28.94/105, respectively, also showing increasing trends (AAPC=14.237%, 14.568%, both P<0.05). For females, the crude incidence and age-standardized incidence were 90.71/105 and 84.76/105, with significant increasing trends (AAPC=11.017%, 11.696%, both P<0.05). The crude incidence of thyroid cancer for the overall population, males, and females first increased and then decreased with advancing age, peaking at ages 40-<45 years, 40-<45 years, and 45-<50 years, with peak rates of 112.56/105, 57.51/105 and 172.29/105, respectively. From 2016 to 2024, the crude incidence of thyroid cancer showed increasing trends across all age groups from 15-<80 years (all P<0.05), whereas no statistically significant trend was observed in the ≥80 years age group (P>0.05). The average age of onset of thyroid cancer in the overall population was 47.36 years. The average age of onset for males, which was significantly lower than that for females (46.57 vs. 47.62 years, P<0.05). The average age of onset for males increased from 45.80 years in 2016 to 47.16 years in 2024, with an average annual increase of 0.23 years (P<0.05). No statistically significant trend in the average age of onset was observed for the overall population or for females (both P>0.05). Conclusion The incidence of thyroid cancer in Jinhua City showed an increasing trend from 2016 to 2024, highlighting the need to strengthen early screening and intervention for thyroid cancer among women and middle-aged populations.
