| Prevalence and influencing factors of overweight and obesity among adult residents in Baoji City |

Abstract Objective To investigate the prevalence and influencing factors of overweight and obesity among adult residents in Baoji City, Shaanxi Province, so as to provide evidence for formulating targeted intervention strategies for overweight and obesity and promoting weight management. Methods Permanent residents aged ≥18 years in Baoji City were selected as study participants using a multi-stage stratified random sampling method. Basic information including gender and age, and lifestyle behaviors including smoking and drinking, were collected through questionnaires. Height and weight were measured, body mass index (BMI) was calculated, and overweight and obesity were defined according to the Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Overweight and Obesity in Chinese Adults (2021). Multivariable logistic regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors for overweight and obesity among adult residents. Results A total of 25 028 adult residents were surveyed, including 12 451 males (49.75%) and 12 577 females (50.25%). Among them, 10 199 adult residents aged 18-<45 years accounted for 40.75%. A total of 9 435 residents were identified as overweight and obesity, with a detection rate of 37.70%. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that gender (female, OR=0.731, 95%CI: 0.694-0.769), age (45-<65 years, OR=1.787, 95%CI: 1.686-1.893; ≥65 years, OR=1.454, 95%CI: 1.355-1.561), region (urban areas, OR=1.239, 95%CI: 1.155-1.330; plain counties, OR=1.199, 95%CI: 1.117-1.286), occupation (professional and technical personnel, OR=0.673, 95%CI: 0.583-0.778; students, OR=0.215, 95%CI: 0.177-0.263), education level (high school, OR=1.424, 95%CI: 1.301-1.558; junior high school, OR=1.821, 95%CI: 1.684-1.968; primary school or below, OR=1.633, 95%CI: 1.507-1.770), marital status (married/cohabiting, OR=2.489, 95%CI: 2.283-2.713; divorced/widowed/separated, OR=1.891, 95%CI: 1.621-2.205), smoking (OR=1.399, 95%CI: 1.308-1.496), drinking (OR=1.701, 95%CI: 1.504-1.925), and daily edible oil intake (≥50 g, OR=1.080, 95%CI: 1.015-1.150) were influencing factors for overweight and obesity among adult residents. Conclusion The detection rate of overweight and obesity among adult residents in Baoji City was relatively low, and was mainly associated with gender, age, region, occupation, education level, marital status, smoking, drinking and edible oil intake.
