| Trends in incidence and mortality of female breast cancer in Panyu District from 2013 to 2024 |

Abstract Objective To investigate the trends in incidence and mortality of female breast cancer in Panyu District, Guangzhou City from 2013 to 2024, so as to provide evidence for optimizing prevention and control strategies for female breast cancer. Methods Data on incidence and mortality of female breast cancer in Panyu District from 2013 to 2024 were collected from the Guangzhou Cancer Registration and Reporting Management System and the Guangdong Provincial Medical Certificate Death of Management Information System, respectively. The crude incidence and mortality were calculated, and the standardized incidence and mortality were calculated using the Fifth National Population Census in 2000. The average annual percent change (AAPC) was used to analyze the trends in incidence and mortality of female breast cancer from 2013 to 2024. Results A total of 4 047 female breast cancer cases and 521 deaths in Panyu District from 2013 to 2024 were reported. The average annual crude incidence and standardized incidence were 66.48/105 and 53.32/105, and the average annual crude mortality and standardized mortality were 8.56/105 and 6.55/105. The crude incidence and standardized incidence of female breast cancer showed upward trends from 2013 to 2024 (AAPC=3.712%, 3.591%, both P<0.05), while the trends in crude mortality and standardized mortality were not statistically significant (AAPC=1.771%, 1.105%, both P>0.05). The crude incidence of female breast cancer showed an upward trend in the age groups of 40-<50 years, 50-<60 years, and 60-<70 years (AAPC=2.754%, 3.748%, and 5.963%, all P<0.05), while the trends in other age groups were not statistically significant (all P>0.05). The crude mortality showed an increasing trend only in the group aged ≥80 years (AAPC=11.188%, P<0.05), while the trends in other age groups were not statistically significant (all P>0.05). Conclusions From 2013 to 2024, the incidence of female breast cancer showed an upward trend in Panyu District, while the mortality remained relatively stable. The incidence among famale aged 40-<70 years increased more rapidly; middle-aged and older famale should be the key target population for screening.
