| Trends in incidence and mortality of prostate cancer in Wenzhou City from 2015 to 2024 |

Abstract Objective To investigate the trends in incidence and mortality of prostate cancer in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province from 2015 to 2024, so as to provide evidence for optimizing prostate cancer prevention and control measures. Methods Data concerning the incidence and mortality of prostate cancer cases from 2015 to 2024 were collected through the Wenzhou Chronic Disease Collaborative Management System. The crude incidence and crude mortality were calculated. Standardized incidence and standardized mortality were computed on the basis of the age distribution data of the standard population from the Fifth National Population Census in 2000. The average annual percent change (AAPC) was used to analyze the trends in prostate cancer incidence and mortality across different regions and age groups. Results From 2015 to 2024, the crude incidence (AAPC=13.905%, 11.076% and 14.915%) and standardized incidence (AAPC=10.053%, 7.720% and 10.901%) of prostate cancer presented increasing trends in the whole city, urban and rural areas (all P<0.05). The crude mortality kept increasing across the three regions (AAPC=10.003%, 9.038% and 10.272%, all P<0.05). Rising standardized mortality was detected in the whole city and rural areas (AAPC=4.307%, 4.762%, both P<0.05), whereas the urban areas standardized mortality trend was not statistically significant (AAPC=2.637%, P>0.05). The crude incidence and mortality rose with advancing age (both P<0.05) and reached peak values of 241.65/105 and 139.30/105 within the group aged ≥80?years. The 60-<70 years old group had the fastest growing crude incidence for the whole city and rural areas (AAPC=13.675%, 15.081%, both P<0.05), and the maximum growth rate appeared in the 50-<60 years old group in urban areas (AAPC=11.880%, P<0.05). The ≥80 years old group exhibited the most rapid increase of crude mortality in all areas (AAPC=10.815%, 10.073% and 10.956%, all P<0.05). Conclusions The incidence and mortality of prostate cancer increased in Wenzhou City from 2015 to 2024, with a relatively rapid upward tendency in rural areas. Particular attention should be paid to enhancing screening coverage and treatment accessibility for prostate cancer in middle-aged and elderly males.
