Abstract Objective To understand the changing trends in alcohol consumption rates and average daily alcohol consumption quantities among residents in a district of Beijing Municipality from 2011 to 2022, so as to provide evidence for carrying out health education and formulating targeted alcohol restriction strategies. Methods Data on basic characteristics and alcohol consumption of permanent residents aged 18-79 years were collected from Chronic Disease and Risk Factor Surveillance conducted in 2011, 2014, 2017, 2019 and 2022 within the district. Alcohol consumption rates and average daily alcohol consumption quantities were analyzed, and stratified weight adjustment for alcohol consumption rates was performed using the data from the Seventh National Population Census in 2020. The segmented logistic regression model and segmented linear regression model were separately used to identify inflection points and analyse temporal variations in weighted alcohol consumption rates and average daily alcohol consumption quantities from 2011 to 2022. Results A total of 10 101 residents were enrolled for surveillance, with 855, 3 335, 479, 3 993 and 1 439 participants in each survey year. There were 4 903 males (48.54%) and 5 198 females (51.46%). The majority of residents were aged 18-<45 years, with 5 489 individuals (54.34%). There were 4 392 drinkers, the weighted alcohol consumption rate was 48.22%, and the median of average daily alcohol consumption quantities was 6.85 (interquartile range, 29.60) g/d. The weighted alcohol consumption rates of the overall population (2011-2017, OR=1.127, 95%CI: 1.051-1.208; 2017-2022, OR=0.896, 95%CI: 0.842-0.954), males (2011-2017, OR=1.126, 95%CI: 1.048-1.210; 2017-2022, OR=0.831, 95%CI: 0.765-0.902) and residents aged 18-<45 years (2011-2017, OR=1.157, 95%CI: 1.045-1.280; 2017-2022, OR=0.870, 95%CI: 0.792-0.957) showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing, with 2017 identified as the inflection point. The average daily alcohol consumption quantities among drinkers in the overall population (2011-2014, β=-0.895, 95%CI: -1.123 to -0.667; 2014-2022, β=0.152, 95%CI: 0.067-0.236), males (2011-2014, β=-0.968, 95%CI: -1.174 to -0.762; 2014-2022, β=0.097, 95%CI: 0.023-0.171), residents aged 18-<45 years (2011-2014, β=-0.702, 95%CI: -0.957 to -0.448; 2014-2022, β=0.167, 95%CI: 0.081-0.253) and residents aged 45-<60 years (2011-2014, β=-0.936, 95%CI: -1.313 to -0.560; 2014-2022, β=0.185, 95%CI: 0.078-0.292) showed a trend of first decreasing and then increasing, with 2014 identified as the inflection point. The average daily alcohol consumption quantities of female drinkers exhibited an overall downward trend from 2011 to 2022 (β=-0.033, 95%CI: -0.057 to -0.008). Conclusions From 2011 to 2022, alcohol consumption rates among residents in a district of Beijing Municipality showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with 2017 as the inflection point, while the average daily alcohol consumption quantities showed a trend of first decreasing and then increasing with 2014 as the inflection point. Males and the population aged 18-<60 years were the key groups for alcohol restriction intervention.
